The new generation of home refrigerator has been unveiled, not just as the latest smart food storage system, but an attempt to become the centre of the home as the new family hub. Winner of the 2018 CES Best of Innovation Award it has certainly impressed experts of consumer technology.
The Family Hub assists the home with better food storage with meal preparation, keeping family members better connected and organised, and providing enhanced entertainment.
New to the Alexa, Siri and Google gang comes the Bixby voice control allowing you to communicate with your fridge as only expected, connecting to Samsungs SmartThings IoT ecosystem.
John Herrington, Senior Vice President, General Manager of Home Appliances, Samsung Electronics America said, “Since Family Hub’s introduction in 2016, consumers have embraced it as their home’s digital command center to help manage food, family and fun. We’ve been listening closely to current users and created a new Family Hub that’s even smarter and more advanced than before. The integration of Bixby and SmartThings into the Family Hub is bringing a new level of intelligent connectivity into the room where people spend the most time: the kitchen.”
The Hub connects to the Smart Things App – which enables the sync to other Samsung Devices. You can add notes on the digital white board, so to never forget that reminder again. Take a live link to the front door when the door bell rings to see who is there, change the home temperature via connection to your thermostat or even link to babies room by pinging the baby monitor on screen.
Not forgetting that this hub is a refrigerator, the smart device carries forward what Samsung have lead the way in, the ability to connect the fridge to are smart devices. View the contents of your fridge on the front screen or when out and about shopping from your mobile. Never again when out at the supermarket, ask yourself what was left in the fridge at home.
New to the system is the Meal Planner which provides recipes based on family food preferences, dietary restrictions and keeps an eye on food expirations. You can also connects to a new deals app to find and save bargains.
Bixby comes into its own via its screen to deal with our organisation that other devices haven’t quite achieved. The software can share calendars, photos and create and store notes on the system. Bixby can also recognise individual voices from the family making a whole lot more personal feeling to the process.
Ask “Hi Bixby, what’s new today?” and it will provide a read out of the news, weather and calendar updates specifically tailored to the user.
Connection to multimedia allows live digital radio, stream music from various platforms and also mirror from a Samsung Smart TV or mobile device with the assistants of an AKG Premium Quality Sound Speaker for sound that is deep in bass and rich in mid-range.
